It's 1985 and in the quiet months before Hawkins starts to burn again, Mary-Elizabeth MacKinley is already unraveling. She's graduating this year. Vinyl Frontier is relocating. Eddie’s leaving for Indianapolis. Her mom is seeing someone new. Babysitting Dustin is about to be a thing of the past. And the future—whatever that even means for a girl like her—is coming fast. To make things more confusing, somewhere in the middle of it all, Steve Harrington keeps showing up with dumb jokes, soft eyes, and a patience she doesn’t know what to do with.
Then Starcourt Mall opens. Neon lights, minimum wage, and new friendships start pulling everyone back together. But beneath the food court and escalators, something ugly is waking up. Something that makes all the other battles they've fought look harmless. Something that makes the change of growing up feel like the least of Mac's problems.

They were best friends as kids and now they didn't talk, and Lisa was content in forgetting about his existence. That was until he started dating her best friend, Nancy Wheeler. Trying to adapt to his unwelcome return into her life, as well as trying to stay out of whatever her brother Dustin and his friends were secretly up to was no easy feat, especially when literal monsters were thrown into the mix.

The beginning of senior year brings more changes with it than Eliza could have ever expected. Outside the move of the Byers family to California, the deaths during the mall fire haunting the town and lingering trauma, high school still continues to be just as challenging and nothing is as it was before. Somehow developing a genuine friendship with Robin while ignoring her feelings, trying to keep the Party from falling apart and figuring out the perfect college to go to are just the tip of the iceberg.
Or an interlude between S3 and S4 in which Eliza and Steve need to deal with the impending future and what that means for their friendship while trying to get over their crushes (with varying success).

Eddie really allows himself to drink in the sight before him. Steve is wearing a pair of jean shorts and an obnoxious Hawaiian shirt over an ABBA tshirt. He had glasses he was constantly readjusting and a gold chain he was fidgeting with. The whole thing was cute. Very much Eddie’s type. The broad shoulders and the warm hazel eyes and the swoopy hair, the megawatt smile? That didn’t hurt either.
“Of course no embarrassment would truly be complete without the baby pictures, but unfortunately those are all at home.” Steve sighs, he packs all of Eddie’s spoil into a bag. Far more than he remembers bringing up actually.
Max seemed to agree with Steve.
“You should invite him to movie night Steve. You can embarrass Henderson in stereo. Break out the prom video. Oo, the middle school theatre phase videos.” she had an evil gleam in her eye as she looked between the two.
Steve sputters, “I mean, if you’re.. it would be Friday? It’s nothing special, we order food, watch a couple movies, smoke a j on the stoop. It’s our end of the week revelry.” He does jazz hands. Eddie kinda wants to bite him.
He smiles, “I could get into some revelry.”

Eddie frowned and his head swivelled around when he heard the shout. Whoever that was, they didn’t sound happy.
He took a drag of his cigarette, before dropping it to the ground, scrubbing it with his foot, and started to move. Leaving behind the building’s shadow as he made his way further out into the parking lot, shifting between the parked cars of the Hideout as he followed the sound of angry voices.
He paused as he came around the side of a car, his surprise at the scene in front of him making him freeze, Steve Harrington was possibly the last person he expected to see in the Hideout’s parking lot at 11pm.
