This is an alternate universe where their are still the separate species but Thorin is not king under the mountain just a local lord.
Because their family isn't doing so well, Bilbo family has been sent them off to work for a noble as a house servant as to make more income to help feed his new ward Frodo.
Bilbo has heard many tales of how servant are often called to their masters bedchambers and most servants wish for it in hopes of being good enough to be made a mistress or hopefully even get pregnant so as to not want for anything ever again.
Bilbo is one of the rare sort that wants nothing to do with that or that life.
His master takes a liking to him anyways. Bilbo can't help but return that interest.

Gandalf decides to not be cryptid for once, and haves a proper conversation with Bilbo. Soon, our Hobbit finds himself on a daring adventure, and with thirteen overprotective dwarrow at his hands.
