And then it is blue on gold, impossible, incredulous, and Apollo finds that he wishes not to look away or for this stolen moment to end.

    Apollo was dying, and their father was not just turning a blind eye; no, he was purposefully trying to accelerate the process. Zeus was actively trying to kill an Olympian god.

    Athena overhears something she wasn't supposed to know - and she doesn't like not knowing things. She finds an unlikely ally in Ares.

    Hermes is usually good at telling when people are lying or hiding something, but he can’t tell if the words are genuine or not; if his father really would be devastated. The threat is real, though. He doesn’t doubt that.

    How could Zeus make a threat sound so kind and loving?

    OR: It takes five months to drain Apollo’s immortality before his fall from Olympus. Hermes sees something he wasn’t supposed to.
